Our story

Started in a room.
Now in your pocket.

In 2018, I walked into one too many networking rooms where I never truly fit in. Everything felt rehearsed, scripted, and performative. People shoved business cards in my face and launched into their pitch before they even knew my name. Not my vibe. I kept waiting for the room I was craving to show up, and it never did. So I did what a lot of us entrepreneurs do when something doesn't exist yet. I built it myself. I started Women of Sacramento, now Powered by Women®.

I wanted a place where we could take the mask off and stop performing. Where you can be your quirky, weird self and say the hard stuff out loud: the wins, the mindset spirals, the doubt, the months that go sideways. No judgment. No shame. Entrepreneurship comes with a highlight reel and a behind the scenes, and I wanted room for both. Because once you say it and someone answers "me too," you stop feeling alone.

Eight years and hundreds of events later, thousands of women across Northern California have found their people here. We've learned that the referrals, the clients, and the collaborations follow the friendships. The messages we love most come from members who hired each other, referred each other, and helped each other stay in business.

In September 2026, we launched the Powered by Women app, the first community-driven technology platform for women in business. It matches you with referral partners, clients, collaborators, and mentors, tracks every connection so nothing falls through the cracks, and puts every event worth your time in one place. Our events continue as a benefit of membership.

From one city to a

How a few Sacramento brunches grew into a community of thousands of women entrepreneurs, and the app built to keep them connected.

  1. 2018

    Women of Sacramento is founded

    Bri Norberg starts hosting brunches, field trips to women-owned businesses, workshops, and coffee events for women craving real friendships and real business relationships.

  2. 2018

    Women in Power Brunch

    Our largest annual gathering brings women together. It grows into our flagship event, with our biggest drawing 400 women.

  3. 2019

    Membership launches

    Women of Sacramento officially opens its membership, giving women a year-round home between events.

  4. 2024

    Becoming Powered by Women®

    Women of Sacramento becomes Powered by Women® as the community grows across Northern California.

    Powered by Women LIVE

    The Women in Power Brunch becomes Powered by Women LIVE, our first multi-day conference.
